Growth of multi-generational housing has accelerated during the economic downturn. This trend seems to be occurring because elderly parents can no longer safely live alone, but also because out-of-work adult children are unable to remain on their own as well. Many families try their best to make it work by creating a well-appointed studio apartment in their garage or basement for the new “live-ins.” Interestingly, however, this may be a trend that continues even beyond the economic downturn.
